LUNAR LOX OUTPOST

Four astronauts will oversee the construction and initial operations of the LOX facility. They will live and work out of a tCM1_04-04-46 (Image 1).

They will live in and work from an Outpost Surface Vehicle configuration (Image 2).
Image 2: Lunar LOX Outpost SV Configuration
The Outpost configuration has a Crane attached on one end of the vehicle, and a tCM1_04–04–46–4049 Crew Module with a Garage loaded with 3,460 kg of equipment and supplies attached on the other end.

CREWED SURFACE VEHICLE MASS
Crewed SV = SV + Crane + tCM1_04–04–46–4049 + Garage + Garage Equipment
Crewed SV = 10500 + 5250 + 4049 + 272 + 3460
Crewed SV = 23,531 kg

The Crewed SV will have to be extracted off of the Lunar Vehicle (LV) lander once on the Moon. The Self–Extraction Unit will have a mass of 3,179 kg and will not damage the LV while in operation.

The Crewed SV will be attached to the Self–Extraction Unit (Image 2).

Image 2: SV Extraction Unit
FIRST LUNAR LOX OUTPOST
SV Extraction Unit = Crewed SV + Self–Extraction Unit
SV Extraction Unit = 23531 + 3179
SV Extraction Unit = 26,710 kg

Because of the large amount of mass needed to reach the surface, the LV will burn 18,052 kg of propellant on its journey, leaving nothing left for a liftoff back into orbit (Image 3).
Image 3: LV carrying the SV Extraction Unit
This LV mission is, therefore, one–way.

Of course, this violates our most sacred rule of "reuse," however, there is just no other way to get the SV Extraction Unit to the surface without sacrificing a vehicle, even though it will be undamaged. We foresee the abandoned LV becoming a permanent monument to our first sortie to our future lunar home.

LUNAR VEHICLE EXTRACTION UNIT MISSION SPECIFICATIONS
Delta V Budget = Delta V Down + Delta V Up
Delta V Budget = 2.159 + 1.883
Delta V Budget = 4.042 kps

We will also need two Cislunar Vehicles (CV) to haul the SV Extraction Unit into lunar orbit. CV1 will carry the SV Extraction Unit (Image 4) whilst CV2 will carry the one–way LV (Image 5).

The four astronauts will enter their SV Crew Module, and then attach to the CV for the trip to the Moon.
